"dress" vs. "wear"
Dear students,
Some of you have expressed confusion about how to use “dress” and “wear” when writing the essay “Dressing for Success”.
I hope this blog entry will help clarify how to use “dress” and “wear”.
In her essay, Kirsty wrote the following sentence:
“Nowadays more and more people dress casual clothing instead of suits.”
I corrected the sentence like this: “Nowadays, more and more people wear casual clothing instead of suits.”
Kirsty viewed my correction, and asked: “What’s wrong with my sentence? Dress is a verb and casual clothing is a noun, so why can I use "wear" casual clothing, but not "dress" casual clothing?”
Good question! For Kirsty and everyone else who is confused, let me try to explain!

If I Were A Boy-Beyonce

If I Were A Boy
If I were a boy Even just for a day I’d roll outta bed in the morning And throw on what I wanted then go Drink beer with the guys And chase after girls I’d kick it with who I wanted And I’d never get confronted for it. Cause they’d stick up for me.
If I were a boy I think I could understand How it feels to love a girl I swear I’d be a better man. I’d listen to her Cause I know how it hurts When you lose the one you wanted Cause he’s taken you for granted And everything you had got destroyed.
If I were a boy I would turn off my phone Tell everyone its broken So they’d think that I was sleepin alone I’d put myself first And make the rules as I go Cause I know that she’d be faithful Waitin for me to come home To come home
If I were a boy I think I could understand How it feels to love a girl I swear I’d be a better man. I’d listen to her Cause I know how it hurts When you lose the one you wanted Cause he’s taken you for granted And everything you had got destroyed.
It’s a little too late for you to come back Say its just a mistake Think I’d forgive you like that If you thought I would wait for you You thought wrong
But you’re just a boy You don’t understand Yeah you don’t understand Oooh How it feels to love a girl someday You wish you were a better man You don’t listen to her You don’t care how it hurts Until you lose the one you wanted Cause you’ve taken her for granted And everything you have got destroyed. But you’re just a boy

Dragon Boat Festivities
One night I was sitting in a café on Roosevelt road with a fellow Canadian sipping a coffee. We’re talking about this and that and how we love Taipei; she mentioned how she loved Dragon Boat. This interested me because I was looking to meet new people, so I inquired. She told me about the team, Cantai, and how it is made up of Canadians living in Taipei. This sounded great to me, so next week there I was under a bridge at 6:00am paddling in a ‘bucket’. We had a few weeks to practice our technique before we could get in the boats and go for a real paddle.
On every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday of the next several weeks I had to wake up at 4:40am to be at Danshui River by 6:00am for practice. Our practices were intense and very tiring; we paddled in all types of weather including the hot sun and heavy rain. Improving almost daily our team became like one big family. As the Dragon Boat Festival approached we became increasingly excited.

(飲酒過量 有害健康)Finally the weekend had arrived. Our first competition! We were all so excited in our red and white uniforms. We jogged a team, stretched as a team and raced as a team. It was an amazing feeling to be working together as one. The excitement built to a climax as we paddled out to the starting area. As we waited to begin we all fell silent, waiting, waiting for instruction.

Andrews wedding lunch
Scott

On Sunday I went to my first Taiwanese wedding lunch, the groom is my friend and coworker Andrew. It was a very exciting and fun experience. I was very worried at first because when I was given the red invitation it had no English on it, I panicked not knowing what to do. My worries were soon alleviated, however, because Andrew hired a bus to take us to the restaurant. All we had to do was meet at our work early in the morning and we would travel to his hometown of Yilan. Now onto my next problem, the present…
