Canada and Taiwan should be Sister Countries

I think that Canada and Taiwan should be sister countries. Why is that? It is because other than food and language, Canada and Taiwan actually have a lot of things in common. Today I would like to bring these things to everyone’s attention.

Canada and Taiwan are international countries

Taiwanese people are always doing business with countries from everywhere around the world. At my last job in Taiwan, my coworker got to go on trips to the Middle East, Singapore, and the United States. The government encourages people to learn more than one langue and I find that people are very interested in languages such as Japanese, French, German or Spanish. I have lived in Japan, and I can definitely say that Taiwan is much more advanced in the area of internationalization.

If you look at the number of Canadian English teachers in Taiwan, you can see that young Canadians are also very international. There are more teachers from Canada than any other country, and our population is only around 35 million. Everyone in Canada wants to go backpacking in other countries, or travel abroad to work and study. In this sense, I believe that Canada and Taiwan are comparable in the fact that they are both international countries.

Canada and Taiwan both have a giant neighbor

I would like to ask anyone who has traveled around the world, how many times have people assumed that you were from China? I’m sure lots of people automatically think that Taiwanese people are Chinese because they always hear about China in the news, and not about Taiwan. Well, the exact same thing happens to Canadians in Taiwan. Everyone thinks that we’re Americans, and even after we tell them we’re Canadian, they still say things like, “When are you going back to America?”

This is the second thing Taiwan and Canada have in common. We both have giant countries with similar cultures located right next door. However, the culture in both Taiwan and Canada is different from that of China and the United States, and although our countries are not as big, Taiwanese people and Canadians are both very proud of our unique cultural traits.

85度C vs. Tim Horton’s

Taiwan has 85度C, an affordable and delicious coffee shop. Their coffee is really good, and it’s cheap too! No matter where you go, you can always find a store to quench your craving for good coffee.

Anyone who has been to Canada, especially Ontario, knows about Tim Horton’s. Tim Horton’s also provides delicious coffee at a reasonable price, and stores can be found all around Canadian cities. Just like 85度, Tim Horton’s uses a strategy of saturating the market with stores, and sometimes there are even 2 or 3 Tim Horton’s shops at the same intersection. Drinking Tim Horton’s coffee is a morning ritual for many Canadians, and having 85度 in Taiwan makes me feel right at home.

The final and most important reason that Canada and Taiwan should be sister countries is that they are both amazing. It is very simple, but of course sometimes 大智如愚.

Please help me in the fight to make Taiwan and Canada sister countries. If Australia and England want, they can be our cousins too!

你覺得呢?加拿大跟台灣適合結為姐妹國家嗎?還是你有其他想法呢?一起來交流!
