Lesson # 2
用『疑問詞』和『can』來造一個正確的句子。
Statements with question word + subject + can
Every week I meet with my friend Landis C. to practice Chinese and to help him with his English. We're trying to boost Landis' TOEIC score, so he has started on a writing program where he reads articles from a textbook called NorthStar and writes his own composition about the topic in every chapter. In this way, we are hoping to improve his active vocabulary without having to speak to crazy foreigners like me.

I will try to use as many examples from working with Landis as possible so I can focus on the true problems faced by Taiwanese students. Help me cheer on my man Landis C. as he works towards his goals.
Grammar Lesson#2
今天,Ian要教大家用『疑問詞』和『can』來造一個正確的句子,
別忘了注意主詞與動詞的順序喔。
Today's lesson will be about using 'question words' and 'can' to form statements.
直述句Statement: She is awake.
I can play the trumpet.
疑問句Question: Is she awake?
Can you play the trumpet?
You can see that the subject and the verb are switched to form a question or a statement.
Sometimes question words like who, what, where, when, why and how are used with the word can to form a statement.
Statement: I'll climb the mountain and tell you what I can see.
He doesn't know how I can wiggle my ears.
Questions: What can I see from the top of the mountain?
How can I wiggle my ears like you?
When you create a statement using a question word and can, make sure you don' t mix up the order of the words like the form of a question.
Here are some examples.
Incorrect:
X When I have an interview, I always try to ask what can I learn from the job.
X When my friends feel sad, I always try to think of how can I make them feel better.
X I didn't know what could I have done to solve the problem.
Correct:
O When I have an interview, I always try to ask what I can learn from the job.
O When my friends feel sad, I always try to think of how I can make them feel better.
O I didn't know what I could have done to solve the problem.
Watch out for the order! Hope this helps.
