今天,6/1是Ian的生日喔! Happy birthday!
想知道Ian還有Riana在加拿大、澳洲的時候都是怎麼過生日的嗎?
快來看看喔!
At the end of every month, our company holds a special party to celebrate for all the employees who had a birthday in that month. We sing happy birthday to them in Chinese and then in English. Sometimes they will say a small speech to everyone, but we always have a biiiig cake to share!
Today is Ian's birthday, which is why we wanted to share some traditions with you!
One of the birthday girls, saying thanks for the company party!
Blowing out the candles!
Do you wonder what Ian will be doing for his birthday? Well, in both Canada and Australia they have the same birthday traditions. On Ian's birthday, he will most likely hold a party and invite his friends and family. They will sing “Happy Birthday” to him, and all eat some cake together. Ian will have to cut the cake first, but he needs to be careful not to cut the bottom of the cake! If he doesn't touch the bottom, then he will have good luck for the next year!
小心!Don't touch the bottom!
His friends and family will give him gifts to celebrate his birthday. The presents could be anything, and it's usually thoughtful to give a gift that suits the birthday person. If you can't think of a suitable gift, then giving things such as books, candles, lotions or chocolates is ok. The gifts are always wrapped up in gift paper or placed inside decorated boxes. It's very important that the birthday person doesn't know what the gift is! We usually give a card as well and write nice comments inside, like “I hope you have a wonderful day, and enjoy another year of opportunities!”
If the birthday person is turning 18, 21, 30, 40, 50… then the celebrations are usually bigger! This is because when a child turns 18, they become an adult and can do more things. Ian's turning 24, so he won't be having a big party this year! But, he still needs to be careful of the last birthday tradition – birthday punches! In Canada and Australia , some people will give the birthday person a small punch in the arm for every year that you've been alive, plus one for good luck!
In Switzerland , wrapping of gifts nicely is very important too, but in Taiwan we've noticed that they don't wrap up presents. Swiss people celebrate with the same kinds of traditions as Canada, Australia and America– a birthday party with cake, games and songs. However they have their big celebrations on “Round Birthdays” – that is, when a person turns 10, 20, 30, 40…!
And... from all of us on the Criterion team, we'd like to wish Ian a very happy birthday! You've been such a delight to know with your daily cheer, humor and bright personality! We wish you all the best on this special day, and every other day!
~.:Happy Birthday Ian!:.~
