At the Airport!
In part 1 Jessie, Julia and Riana booked their tickets to Bangkok , and now they are in the airport. They are standing in line to check in their baggage.
Julia: I’ve packed everything but the kitchen sink! I hope my luggage isn’t overweight.
Riana: I’m sure you’ll be ok. I mean, how much can you pack in a bag for only 4 days?!
(They reach the counter)
Jessie: Here are our passports. We have e-tickets, so here’s the print-out of our itinerary.
Airport officer: Thanks. Here are your tickets. Please go on to be x-rayed.
X-ray officer: Please put your bags and shoes on the conveyer belt here, and then step through the x-ray. Do you have any liquids, aerosols or gels in your handbags?
Riana: I have toothpaste and cough medicine in my handbag.
Airport Officer: The cough medicine is… less than 100ml. That’s ok. You’ll need to put them both into this clear, resealable plastic bag though.
Riana: That’s fine. I guess we can’t be cutting corners with these safety measures.
Jessie: It might be a pain in the neck, but it’s better than being in danger.
Julia: C’mon, let’s go and do some duty-free shopping now that we’re checked in!
A picture of the resealable bag
Everything but the kitchen sink: Almost everything that you can think of; many of which you do not need.
Eg: Jim's taken everything but the kitchen sink for the camping trip! I don't think we really need it all.
- Cutting corners: To do something in the fastest or cheapest way.
Eg: You can't cut corners with this project because the supervisor is going to check everything once it's finished!
- Pain in the neck: Something or someone is difficult.
Eg: Wow, Chelsea can really be a pain in the neck when she wants to be! I'll never go on holidays with her again.
