A few weeks ago, my friend Nate left North America for the first time and came to visit me in Taiwan. You've seen pictures of Nate before in my cottage blog. He is the guy who helped in the kidnapping of Ronald McDonald.

I met Nate over 10 years ago when I moved from Montreal, Canada to Kansas City in the United States. We became best friends and spent a lot of time together. I would often go to Nate's house and do stupid things to try to make Nate and his mom laugh.

Nate is really smart. He can build a computer with his bare hands. He's so smart that he might join the FBI. He has an interview next year. If he joins the FBI, I'll try to get real FBI jackets for everyone. Nate also has a degree in computer engineering and a masters in computer security. More importantly, he has the face of an FBI agent. Don't you think?

Traveling to Taiwan was Nate's first time leaving North America. It was also his first time riding the subway. It was very convenient for him to find his way around the city on the MRT while I was at work. Nate loves to visit museums, so he went to see the Chiang-Kai Shek Memorial Hall, the Sun-Yat Sen Memorial Hall, and the National Palace Museum.

Nate was only here for one weekend, so I took him to Hualian to see the marble cliffs. He was REALLY impressed. He thought the scenery was amazing. We took a tour the first day we arrived in Hualian and went hiking the second day. Nate gave me some pictures from Hualian, but he's not in any of them, so you'll have to trust me that he was there. Pretend that our tour guide in this picture is Nate.

Another trip we took together was to Yingge. We made some pottery out of clay and some other artwork. Nate thought his bowl was more beautiful than my..... my..... I don't know what my creation was, but it was gorgeous.

That night I took Nate to Jiufen to see the night view. We sat out on the patio of a teahouse that faced the ocean and drank tea until 10 o'clock. After that, we had to go home because I had to work the next day, but I think I could have sat out on that patio all night. I had a really good time.

I'm really happy that Nate was able to visit me. I also feel lucky that I have a good friend like Nate. We don't see each other or talk all that often, but when we do meet if feels like nothing has changed.

Nate

Nate also said he had a great time in Taiwan and he commented on how friendly Taiwanese people are. Taiwanese people helped us more than 4 times in 8 days, and we never had to ask, people always just offered. When Nate goes home, I'm sure that he'll tell everyone about Hualian, Yingge, and the friendly people of Taiwan. I'm trying to convince him to come back and live in Taiwan with me.
