I'm trying to learn Chinese, and it's really hard. Sometimes I don't know what to do because it takes such a long time to improve, but I will keep working because I think Chinese is very interesting.

I would like to tell you about how I study Chinese and maybe you can get some ideas abuot how to study English.

The first thing I do is find a good book. Text books are designed to cover a wide range of the most commonly used words and grammar, so if you're just starting out you can take advantage of this.

Ian上課用的書

Ian學習的方式，是先把書本的內容快速瀏覽一遍，再從頭開始細看。這是個不錯的讀書方法喔！

After I buy the book, I read it. I read it quickly at first and highlight all the words I don't know. Then I go back and read it again more carefully.

Ian還會請他的朋友幫他錄音，隨時練習！

Once I have read the book, I get my friend Landis to record all the chapters of the book on MP3. I try to listen to the MP3s every day.

複習、複習、再複習！

After I have listened to the MP3 many times and I am familiar with the articles, I go back and read the book while listening to the MP3s.

閱讀中文報紙

In my spare time I try to read other materials, like the newspaper. I like the free paper you get in the MRT station. It's free!

I am still just a beginner, but I think I might start trying to write in Chinese pretty soon, and I will talk to my conversation partner in Chinese to practice speaking.

Chinese is very hard, but I think it's worth it. I also think Chinese will be a very important language in the future.
