SECTION 2/4
After taking the taxi to the Hotel D in part 1, the girls pay the driver and enter the hotel lobby.
Riana: Well, it looks pretty nice to me. But there are heaps of people kicking back – I hope they have some rooms left!
Jessie: There’s the reception desk. I’m going to ask them.
Jessie walks over the reception and begins talks with the hotel staff.
Jessie: We’d like to stay for 3 nights. Can you tell me what the rates are for standard rooms?
Hotel Reception: I’m sorry miss, but all our standard rooms are booked out. We can upgrade you to the deluxe rooms, and we won’t charge you the usual price. It’s just $289 per room a night, including breakfast.
Jessie: What’s in the room?
Hotel Reception: The room includes a double bed, a single bed, room service, a fully-stocked bar fridge, television, A/C and a Jacuzzi-bath.
Julia: Do you do wake-up calls too?
Hotel Reception: Yes, that can be arranged if you want one.
Jessie: Ok, last question! Do you accept visa?

Kick back: relax and enjoying one’s free time
Eg: John knew that this holiday would be just the time to kick back and forget about work.
Upgrade: Changing one class or service to a higher one.
Eg: My friend is an air hostess, so once when there were free seats in first-class she upgraded me from economy class. It was quite a difference in quality and service!
Wake-up Call: You can ask the hotel staff to call your room to wake you up, so you won’t be late meetings etc.
Eg: The hotel gave me a wake-up call this morning, so I could catch my early morning flight in time.
