Ian和Riana都曾在日本住過一小段時間,對他們而言日本與台灣,兩者有著非常多相似之處,但是在某些文化層面又有著很大的差異。今天他們要與你分享他們眼中的台灣與日本
Riana and I have both lived in Japan for three months. Riana lived just outside of Kobe and I lived in the countryside near Yokohama. We both had a really good time living and studying there.

Taiwan has lots of Japanese stores and products. I've gotten very used to seeing SOGO, Yoshinoya, and many Japanese products since I've been here. I remember the first night I went out for dinner with my new coworkers in Taiwan, they took me to a sushi restaurant. I really wanted to try some local food, but I ended up eating miso soup.
I was also really surprised when I saw a sing for a store that used the Japanese character 'の'. I asked my friend, "Why is there a Japanese character in the sign?" He replied, "We use 'の'sometimes. It just means '的'."

From new cultural trends to relics that remain from the Japanese occupation, Japan has had some influence on Taiwan. Chinese culture has also had a big influence over Japan, introducing Chinese characters and other cultural practices. But I find that the differences between Taiwan and Japan is very large.
I believe that Taiwanese people are more open and Japanese people are more private and closed. In Taiwan, if I am in the train station trying to read the signs, people always come up to me and help me out. In Japan, people might want to help, but they are too shy to approach people they don't know. Taiwanese people and Japanese people are both very friendly, but I think that it is much easier to become good friends with Taiwanese people.
Japanese people are also much more careful about the opinions of other people. They are careful not to offend others or do anything that might be considered rude. For example, if a Taiwanese person went into a store and saw clothes that were ugly, they might make a funny face to show their friend they don't like the clothes. Japanese people would never do this because it would be considered rude.
The Japanese language is also very different from Chinese. Even though both use Chinese characters, Japanese has a lot of grammar, and it all changes according to people's relationships and social status. To represent this grammar, the Japanese use hiragana, which is similar to 注音. Chinese writing is all characters.
These are just some of the differences between Taiwan and Japan. Both are great places to live and study. I recommend that you visit Japan if you have the chance. There are many beautiful places to see and fun things to do.
